Abelardo Morell

Abelardo Morell was born in Havana, Cuba in 1948. His family fled Cuba in 1962 he got his bachelor of fine arts at bowdoin college in 1977 and a master of fine arts at yale university in 1981. So far he has written five independent books (and a number of collaborative titles): A camera in a room (1995), Abelardo Morell and the Camera Eye (1999), A Book of Books (2002), Camera Obscura (2004), Abelardo Morell (2006).

he really likes to make art before he photographs it, and it is often having to do with light, he loves camera obscura images, and whatever the heck this is...

he also really enjoys making art with books

he also enjoys cliches (he actually titled the section i found this photo in cliches) but he tries to set them apart slightly

I really like his subject matter because he takes everyday stuff and makes it dusty in quality (which I really like) as well as his wonky camera obscura stuff. but one thing all his photographs have in common: he tries to make art before he even captures it in his camera.

Final- Desert Beauty

Desert usually means a place deprived of water or life, but it also means a place that is abandoned or deserted. The goal of this project is to show beauty in solitude and solemnity. and yes they all were shot in actual deserts.

I like this one because of the little house on top of the cliff that sort of shows interaction between life and lifelessness

I like this one because of how it looks like the bush is what Is causing that crack, either that or growing from it. Even a desert like that crack can have life.

this is a huge solitary Joshua tree that has gotten so big it needs supports to keep it from falling over. It is the only local tree that has survived to see the tree farm behind it and in the next shot.

This tree farm Is a desert in its own right, while there are trees everywhere, they are all devoid of life and energy. It is replacing the desert surrounding it like all the siblings of that solitary Joshua tree.

these two are of a collection of roadside graves. graves... need I explain how they are a desert?

This is a deserted trolley that has been somehow scorched. the view is looking out on the salt flats. this is one of my favorites. I think the saltair palace would be a great place for a project for me

this is the same trolley next to some random building and some pipes. in the background you can see the really bad haze.

This is one of those random pipes that is sitting either in a frozen pond, a salt flat, or a frozen salt flat (it was pretty cold)

this is another of my favorites of a dead rabbit next to a hose, the curves of the spine and the hose match. this REALLY demonstrates an absence of life.

Jack Dykinga

Jack Dykinga is a nature and photojournalism photographer who has received a Pulitzer prize for Feature Photography in 1971. Nearly all of his work is of the many Arizona deserts, and I notice he really likes to photograph plants.

Assignment #X Panoramas

This Is Of a sidewalk near my house with footprints in the snow, I love the light, and the left side of the picture.

I wanted to crop this one, I liked it better that way, My favorite part is the light up top.

Taken In SLC, these are a bunch of boarded up shops, a whole row right next to a bunch of skyscrapers.

This Is my favorite pano. I love love love the reflection of the street light, and I love the light. It was right next to the shops as seen above, and this was also for lease. a whole block!

Assignment 6: portraits :(

I do not like portraits. I never have, and I don't think I ever will. I bet you can probably tell from my work... With this assignment, however i did learn something very important. HAVE FUN WHILE SHOOTING. Without my having fun on this assignment, my shots would have looked like this without the ignment 6, if you catch my drift.

Assignment 5 50 free shot

HI everybody, this is my assignment 5, I took pictures of gardens. I learned that Mr. Slade doesn't like my sagebrush :(. I did like the freedom this assignment gave me, but as usual I am complaining about time. One can never have too much time.

I like this one because of how the red on the left fades into the green on the right. I purposefully made this a little colder to make it feel sadder.

this is probably my favorite. I love how the grate of the heater is hot enough to cut into the leaf without the rest of it combusting. i also like how it is the only one actually still connected to the bush and it is dying.

same bush different angle, i like how all the sticks pretty much all go in the same direction.

this is the one Mr. slade doesn't like... I still posted it because i like it. i like it because of those twigs of another plant sprouting out of the main plant.

This one is ok, The main reason i chose it is because it looks like it should be symetrical, but it is not.

i like this one because it is like a miniature mountain with a creekbed down it, and it looks like all the stuff is going to be washed down it.

i chose this one because the "focus" of the picture is the plant, but the rock behind it is what is in focus. yes that was on purpose.

ok, i am getting really tired, so don't be surprised it i don't have a lot to say. wilting flower, in fall. more depressing gardens.

two bushes and a window. I have heard people say they like this, and i'm not entirely sure why... i like my leaf better.

the last one, a close up of peeling bark. poor tree. it has cool bark though...
